Tulsa, Oklahoma – On StudioTulsa today, we visit with Jacqueline Wilson, a Senior Program Officer at the Academy for Conflict Management and Peacebuilding, which is based at the U.S. Institute of Peace. Wilson was recently a guest of the Tulsa Committee on Foreign Relations, where she gave an address entitled "Peacebuilding in Sudan." Given its successful independence referendum earlier this year, South Sudan --- the newest nation-state on the planet --- will come into being in July. Rich in oil, plagued by civil war, and suffering from political corruption at its highest levels, Sudan is Africa's largest country --- and perhaps one of its most challenging candidates, when it comes to establishing a meaningful peace. What's in store for South Sudan, now that it's drawing closer to finally (and officially) breaking away from the North? And how might the recent dramatic events in Libya --- and in other parts of northern Africa and the Middle East --- relate to, or otherwise reflect on, the status quo in Sudan? Such are the discussion points of today's program.
