Tulsa Glassblowing School Reopens Doors of McClure Park Recreational Center

City of Tulsa

The building that was formerly known as McClure Park Recreation Center is now home to non-profit organization, Tulsa Glassblowing School (TGS). TGS was founded over a decade ago in the Tulsa Arts District with the mission to empower self-esteem and positive change in the youths and adults of Tulsa while also enriching the cultural experience within the Tulsa community through art education and experience. However, the continuously expanding outreach programs outgrew their former location and needed a new place to continue to grow and serve Tulsans.

In 2012, due to lack of funding, McClure Park Recreation Center was forced to close. Now, through private-public partnership and private donations, the Tulsa Glassblowing School was able to open the doors of the center again; however, this time, as a school for a unique art form. Mayor G.T. Bynum says “This partnership is a testament to what we can accomplish together by bringing in a once closed facility to life through youth and community programming that will be available to all Tulsans.”

Anyone interested in glass art can attend open studio Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm. You can take advantage of special discounts offered during the month of November.
