This week on Performance Oklahoma: Classics 4 - Pianist Stephen Hough and the OKC Philharmonic!

Tracing its roots to the city’s first professional orchestra in 1924, the Oklahoma City Philharmonic formed in 1988 with the help of dedicated civic leaders and corporations and celebrates 27 years of performances in Oklahoma City. Under the musical direction of Joel Levine, the orchestra performs Classics, orchestral Pops, and Discovery Family concerts, as well as a variety of community engagements.

Stephen Hough, the distinguished and internationally acclaimed pianist joins the OKC Philharmonic to offer the Oklahoma premier of the Piano Concerto in g minor, Op 33 by Antonin Dvo?ák on Saturday, January 9th at the Civic Center Music Hall in downtown Oklahoma City. Music director Joel Levine conducts the concert, the fourth in the Classics series this season which also includes Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 in b minor, Op 74, "Pathetique." Stephen Hough shares his insights about the neglected concerto, and how he finds time to add yet another exciting new endeavor into the mix of his varied and fascinating projects, Mr. Hough a true polymath, not only securing a reputation as a uniquely insightful concert pianist but also as a composer, a painter and a writer.

This program airs Saturday night at 8pm on Classical 88.7 HD-1.
