Tulsa, Oklahoma – Back in November, the Tulsa City-County Library selected Gary Shaffer, a library administrator from the Sacramento Public Library in California, as its new CEO. He took up his new post here in Tulsa earlier this month. What will Shaffer bring to our beloved library system? And what attracted him to the TCCL in the first place? On today's ST, we chat with Shaffer in some detail about both his background and his goals, his past experiences as a librarian and his plans and intentions for the TCCL. We also ask him about the role and/or function of libraries --- large-scale, central facilities as well as smaller, neighborhood branches --- in early-21st-century America more generally.
