The Book as a Work of Art --- Philbrook Presents "Artists' Books: Works and Pictures"

On this installment of ST, a discussion of both the art and craft of making books. Our guest is Jody Williams, a Minneapolis-based book artist, printmaker, teacher, and writer. The (mostly miniature-sized) books that she creates as individual works of art appear under the name Flying Paper Press; books created by Williams have appeared in exhibits all over the country, and some are included in a group show currently on view at the Philbrook Museum of Art (through July 21st) called About Bookworks III. It's an exhibition that picks up on the museum's ongoing exploration of the book as a work of art --- from illustrations to making paper, from cover images to bindings, from type-setting and layout to assembling bookcases and numbering specific editions. Williams will be speaking about her work --- and leading an interactive "book-making" group activity --- tonight (the 16th) at 5:30pm at the museum. This event is entitled "Artists' Books: Works and Pictures" --- and it's part of Philbrook's Third Thursday event series. (Admission for this event is included with museum admission; you can learn more about tonight's Third Thursday happening at this link.)
