Creating Stories, Characters, and Series: Chatting with the YA Novelist and TV Writer D.J. MacHale

On this edition of our show, we visit with D.J. MacHale, the bestselling YA novelist and veteran TV writer/director. MacHale is probably best known as the author of the ten-volume, YA fantasy book series called "Pendragon: Journal of an Adventure through Time and Space." He's also the author of the "Morpheus Road" trilogy --- you can read all about MacHale's literary output here, by the way --- and he's likewise been successful in the world of children's television. He co-created the popular "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" TV series for Nickelodeon, producing all 91 episodes of the program, and actually began his work in the entertainment biz by writing several ABC Afterschool Specials. MacHale joins us today to talk about his long-running career as a multi-faceted, multi-genre "storyteller" for younger audiences --- and to preview, in particular, his latest YA novel, "SYLO: Book One," which Booklist has called an "extremely high-octane story that's the equivalent to a summer movie blockbuster."
