On this installment of ST, we speak with harpist Janet Witman, whose accomplished career in music has taken her from the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia to the Salzedo Harp Colony in Maine (where she worked with the legendary Alice Chalifoux). Witman, based in Pennsylvania, has performed as a soloist with the Allentown Symphony, the Hilton Head Orchestra, Concerto Soloists of Philadelphia, Providence Chamber Orchestra, the Wheatland Chorale, and other ensembles. She'll be performing a concert tonight (Thursday the 24th) at 7:30pm in the Gussman Hall of TU's Lorton Performance Center as a part of this week's Midwest Harp Festival. In 2000, Witman (who's the Guest Artist for this year's festival) established the Brandywine Harp Orchestra -- a professional-level harp ensemble that made its European debut at the Edinburgh International Harp Festival in 2009 -- and she shares a few anecdotes with us about the life and times of a freelance harpist.
