Urban Planner Charles Marohn to Speak Soon in Tulsa at a "Walk to the Future" Event

Aired on Monday, October 6th.

On this edition of ST, we speak by phone with urban planner and professional engineer Charles Marohn, who is also the president and founder of a nonprofit called Strong Towns. This organization works to help America's towns and cities to become financially resilient and economically strong -- and as is noted at the Strong Towns website: "Enduring prosperity cannot be artificially created from the outside but must be built from within, incrementally over time. An America in transition must focus on developing strong, local communities, places where humanity's creativity, compassion, and spirit of collaboration can flourish." And moreover, as Marohn himself asserts at that same website: "We don’t lack growth. America has had decades of the most robust growth in human history. What we lack is productive growth; growth that builds wealth within our communities. We need a development pattern that creates wealth, not destroys it." Marohn will be the keynote speaker at a "Walk to the Future" event here in Tulsa happening next week, on Tuesday the 14th. This free event is being presented by INCOG -- and will bring together national and regional land use and urban design experts to discuss the connections between walkable environments and economic vitality. After all, walkability within a city of course increases retail sales, grows property values, and attracts tourists. You can learn more about this INCOG event, and register for it, at this link.
