Radio in Tulsa is rich in history. The legendary Bob Wills broadcast his show and live dances with the Texas Playboys from Cain’s Ballroom every Thursday and Saturday evening over KVOO. The program reached homes across America and soldiers, and fans would write in their song requests and tune in faithfully to listen.

A “Letter from the General Manager” at the beginning of a new year is like the “Happy Holidays from Our Family!” letter you get from your third-favorite cousin (and just about as exciting): Heavy on the good stuff that happened to ME, light on the good stuff that happened to US.  Let’s change that, starting with…

Public radio is a beautiful thing.  It connects with the sights and sounds and people from around the world, it fills our cars and homes and sprits with music, it connects us with our community, and it can even be a reminder of home.

One day last week, John Wooley, producer and host of Swing on Thisforwarded the Public Radio Tulsa staff an email from a listener who was travelling down the Amazon! The Amazon, how cool, is this?!

Eeeek!! Frightfully fun and festive music...dead ahead! That's right, folks, it's time once again for The Hidden Sixties Halloween Special! (Note: This program originally aired in December of 2013.) On this edition of ST, we tap into the unmistakable holiday cheer that's currently wafting through our offices like so much thick fog in a John Durkee crack-of-dawn weather report. In other words, we sit down with a few of our co-workers here at Public Radio Tulsa to chat about which Christmas songs matter most to them and why. Please note, however, that due to certain music-rebroadcast-rights-related issues, we are not able to offer an online "stream" of this particular show.

On today's show, we speak with John Wooley, host of the popular "Swing on This" program here on Public Radio 89.5, which airs every Saturday night at 7pm. Wooley is also a prolific and longtime writer/critic/advocate/fanboy concerning many various facets of American pop culture: horror movies, Western Swing music, comic books, pulp fiction, Oklahoma music and filmmaking, etc.

On this edition of ST, we chat with our friend and colleague, John Wooley, who's been hosting his popular "Swing on This" western swing program on Public Radio Tulsa KWGS 89.5-1 for the past nine years or so. This show is heard every Saturday night at 7pm, and this coming Saturday, the 13th, John host a special, two-hour broadcast of his program, LIVE from the historic Cain's Ballroom in downtown Tulsa.
