The Oklahoma Democratic Party is demanding an apology from and censure of Rep. Jim Olsen (R-Roland) after comments he made Wednesday as a committee considered his abortion restrictions bill.

"The cavalier usage of racist terms with no repercussions is exhausting. I would be grateful if those who are elected to represent Oklahoma remember that they represent all of Oklahoma, even those of us who are Black and brown," said Oklahoma Democratic Party Chair Alicia Andrews.

Oklahoma's senior United States senator said Thursday that allegations of ethics violations made by the state Democratic party were unfounded.

"Yet again, the only thing the Democrats can come up with are false attacks against me," Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) said in an emailed statement provided by a spokesperson for his reelection campaign. "They won’t distract me from doing my only job: protecting Oklahoma families from a radical liberal agenda.”

The Oklahoma Democratic Party addressed President Trump’s Tulsa campaign rally, which will happen Saturday night.

Chair Alicia Andrews said the president has gone from saying it’s about Oklahoma’s COVID numbers to saying it’s about celebrating Juneteenth, and she’s not sure what the real reason is.

"And frankly, no one wants him to celebrate Juneteenth. Juneteenth also marks the fact that slaveholders benefitted from two and a half more years of free labor. We get to celebrate the end of chattel slavery. The celebration is not for the oppressor," Andrews said.
