Logan Venderlic On Mountain Stage

Brian Blauser

Logan Venderlic makes his first appearance on Mountain Stage, recorded live on the campus of West Virginia University in Morgantown. A native of the small West Virginia town called Saint Marys, Venderlic's first collection of tunes prompted Yahoo Music to name him one of the top artists during the first half of 2012.

Venderlic's enthusiasm for playing to an audience in his home state can be heard as he introduces each song, especially "Soul of a Cynic," for which he calls on several Mountain Stage band members to help sing the chorus. Venderlic is backed by his own band, which includes Nick Vandenberg on bass, Geoff Goodhue on drums, and guitarists David Valentine, Ryan Postlewait and Joe White.

This set includes two songs, "A Walk with a Girl" and "Travelin' Tooth Operator, which were not heard in the radio broadcast, and ends with "Jerkwater Town," a bittersweet paean to Venderlic's home. "I could never stay away for too long," he sings, "the mountains are calling me back."
