Hope you can tune in for the forthcoming installment of All This Jazz, right here on Public Radio 89.5 (KWGS-FM).
Our next show begins at 10pm on Saturday the 25th, and it'll also be conveyed via live stream at PublicRadioTulsa.org.
For those new to our game: ATJ airs every Saturday night on Public Radio 89.5, from 10pm till midnight. We always thereafter offer a 7pm re-airing of the program the following Sunday evening, on Jazz 89.5-2, which is our station's all-jazz HD Radio channel.
Every week, we spin modern jazz, both recent and classic, across a range of styles -- from Mose Allison to Joe Zawinul, Geri Allen to Denny Zeitlin. Plus, the second half of our two-hour show, beginning at 11pm, invariably carries a theme.
This time out, that theme will be A Salute to the 2015 NEA Jazz Masters. The lives and works of four "living legends" of this music -- pianist/composer Carla Bley, saxophonist/educator George Coleman, saxophonist/flutist Charles Lloyd, and jazz presenter and club owner Joe Segal -- were celebrated at a gala concert-and-ceremony earlier this week at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York, and so we'll hear, in the latter part of ATJ, music from each of them (and in the case of Mr. Segal, music from his long-running Chicago club, The Jazz Showcase). And in the first hour of our show, we'll dig tunes from the likes of Elvin Jones, Bob Dorough, Jane Monheit, and Billy Childs (among others).
Join us, jazz fans. All This Jazz is "all you."
