Tulsa, Oklahoma – On our show today, we hear from author Patti Dickinson. Her new book (just out from the University of Oklahoma Press) is a biography of Tommy Thompson, a longtime football coach and mentor at the Sequoyah Vocational School who --- although he died some 50 fifty years ago --- remains a legendary and beloved figure among the Cherokee people. As Dickinson tells our host Rich Fisher, she was originally drawn to the story of Coach Tommy Thompson when she realized that this man was a real-life hero, a driven and passionate individual who taught, coached, cared for, and looked after a whole generation of Cherokee youngsters. Also on our program today, commentator Mark Darrah shares some vivid memories from a visit to Kentucky's Mammoth Cave.
