Oklahoma City, OK – Henry vetoes set showdown in Okla. Legislature

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) More political showdowns are likely between Oklahoma lawmakers and Gov. Brad Henry after the GOP-controlled Legislature successfully overrode the Democratic governor's vetoes of two abortion bills.

Last week, Henry followed up the April 23 abortion vetoes by rejecting bills to exempt Oklahoma-made firearms from federal regulations and prohibit the addition of radio frequency identification tags on state driver's licenses. Republican sponsors of both bills have vowed to attempt another override.

Henry also vetoed last week a bill sponsored by House Speaker Chris Benge and Senate President Pro Tem Glenn Coffee that would have allowed the House and Senate to draft language on ballot measures sent to Oklahoma voters, a task currently performed by the attorney general's office.
