Republicans Lead Democrats in Oklahoma Absentee Votes

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Republicans are leading Democrats in the number of absentee ballots submitted for the Nov. 6 general election.

Election Board Secretary Paul Ziriax says that as of Friday, nearly 32,000 Oklahoma voters have mailed absentee ballots to county election boards.

Election boards have sent a little more than 66,000 absentee ballots to Oklahoma voters who requested them. A breakdown by party affiliation indicates that almost 37,000 absentee ballots have been mailed to Republican voters and about 18,000 of them have been returned to election boards. A total of 25,000 ballots have been mailed to Democratic voters and almost 12,000 have been returned.

Almost 5,000 ballots have been mailed to voters who are registered as independents and about 2,000 of them have been returned.

The deadline to request an absentee ballot is Wednesday.
