Tulsa, OK – Cell phone tower at Tulsa school opposed

TULSA, Okla. (AP) A proposal to build a 196-foot cell phone tower on the grounds of a Tulsa middle school is opposed by neighbors and has the mayor asking questions.

Tulsa Mayor Kathy Taylor also has questions about the tower. She's sent a letter to the city's Board of Adjustment saying her administration wants to review and analyze the proposal.

Plans call for the tower to be built at Nimitz Middle School for use by Cricket and Sprint customers. It would replace a 190-foot tower that's being removed as part of the widening of Interstate 44.

An attorney for neighbors in the area say the tower would be an eyesore and would decrease property values.

The Board of Adjustment is to consider the proposal June 9.
