Oklahoma City, OK – Edmondson says he's running for governor
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Attorney General Drew Edmondson has announced plans to run for governor, saying his huge environmental lawsuit against Arkansas poultry companies should be resolved by the end of the year.
Edmondson, a Democrat, said Wednesday he hopes to succeed Democratic Gov. Brad Henry, who is completing his second and final term.
Edmondson joins Lt. Gov. Jari Askins in the race for governor.
U.S. Rep. Mary Fallin, R-Okla., and state Sen. Randy Brogdon, R-Owasso, are running on the GOP side.
Edmondson said the biggest issue for the next governor will be the state's economy and budget, which this year experienced a $900 million shortfall due to declining energy prices and the faltering economy.
