Broken Arrow, OK – Study says city could close fire station

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (AP) A consultant's study for the city of Broken Arrow recommends closing a fire station and evaluating whether the city should operate its own jail.

The report by ICMA Consulting Services was to find ways the police and fire departments can operate more efficiently.

It says the city should re-evaluate whether to maintain its 34-bed jail because its rarely full, creates liability issues and is costly. The study also said the city could take prisoners from other agencies for a fee.

The recommendation to close one of the city's six fire stations and to eliminate at one ambulance and to raise ambulance fees.

City Manager Jim Twombly says the study cost $60,000 and is a "good starting point" for discussions.
