Washington, D.C. – EPA fines Osage County oil facilities

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (AP) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has imposed a $1,900 fine against two Osage County oil production facilities.

The EPA said Tuesday the fine followed an inspection of the facilities, known as the Velma Chinn Lease Battery and the Larry Chinn Tank Battery. The agency says the facilities violated federal rules regarding spill prevention, control and countermeasures.

The EPA says neither facility had adequate information in their spillage plans to report an oil spill. Inspectors found that workers were not trained in the operation of discharge prevention equipment and pollution control laws.

The agency also says spill prevention briefings were not conducted as required and visual inspections of containers and foundations were not conducted periodically.

The EPA says the deficiencies have been corrected.
