Tulsa, OK – Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett is considering all options when it comes to budget cuts for the police and fire department. The mayor is looking at a realignment of the public safety departments as a way to trim costs. He is considering trimming the number of upper and middle management personnel.

Tulsa Police Chief Ron Palmer has proposed using funding for new police cars for officer salaries. That, however, would require a vote of the people. That is because capital expenses, such as police cars, are a part of the third penny sales tax approved by voters.

Another proposal is to sell one of the two Tulsa Police Helicopters. Both whirlybirds have been grounded as part budget cuts already in effect.
