Oologah, OK – Teenage girl diagnosed with meningococcal disease
OOLOGAH, Okla. (AP) State and local health officials say another Oologah-Talala school district student has developed meningococcal disease.
The Oklahoma State Department of Health said in a news release Monday that the teenage girl brings to seven the number of cases reported in the northeast Oklahoma district. Her name and age weren't released.
Seven-year-old Andrew Thomas and 8-year-old Shuache Moua died Thursday after a short bout with the disease. Four children remained hospitalized at The Children's Hospital at St. Francis in Tulsa.
The Rogers County Health Department in Claremore will host a special clinic Tuesday to provide antibiotics for the girl's family members and other close contacts.
Officials say only those who have had close, personal contact to someone with a meningococcal infection have a slightly increased risk of developing the dise
