Oologah, OK – Limbs of boy with meningococcal disease amputated
TULSA, Okla. (AP) The grandfather of an Oologah-Talala student who contracted meningococcal disease earlier this month says the six-year-old has undergone surgery to amputate his arms and legs.
Rockie Mitchell says doctors operated on Jeremiah Mitchell on Wednesday. Rockie Mitchell says the child also doesn't have any blood circulating in his chin and his left cheek up to his eye, which will require more surgery.
Jeremiah remains in intensive care at Children's Hospital at St. Francis.
Six other students in the Oologah-Talala school district have contracted the disease, and two of them died March 11.
A fund has been set up to help with Jeremiah's medical expenses.
