Oklahoma City, OK – Funds help Okla. doctors move to digital records
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) An Oklahoma medical foundation will get $5.3 million in federal stimulus funding to help doctors in the state move from paper to electronic patient medical records.
The Oklahoma Foundation for Medical Quality will set up a center to give technical assistance to physicians interested in making the switch to digital records.
Supporters say the technology will help bring medicine into the digital age and give providers instant access to records and reduce preventable errors and costs.
The 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act allocated about $20 billion in federal funding for health care information technology. The money will help defray the costs and encourage investment in the technology's infrastructure.
