Door-to-Door Census

By Associated Press

Oklahoma City, OK – OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Between 5,000 and 6,000 census takers have started going door-to-door to count the number of Oklahomans.

U.S. Census officials say the workers began making home visits last week and will continue until mid-July in an effort to count the population of the nation and of Oklahoma.

More than 72 percent of all U.S. households and about 66 percent of Oklahoma households that received a census form have mailed it back.

About 635,000 census takers have been hired nationwide and will visit an estimated 48 million addresses.
