Oklahoma City, OK – Federal agency considers farm dust crackdown
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma farmers are stating their opposition to a proposed federal regulation that would tighten rules on farm dust.
Oklahoma's two senators are among 21 members of the Senate that asked the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to drop the proposal.
Oklahoma Farm Bureau President Mike Spradling says it would be nearly impossible for state farmers to comply with the proposed regulations.
The letter signed by Oklahoma Sens. Jim Inhofe and Tom Coburn says tightening the standard for allowable dust would hurt the economy because growers would have to spend a much greater effort on dust control.
Farmer and rancher Curtis Roberts of Arcadia says working the land generates dust and that he doesn't see a way to prevent it.
