Jenks, OK – Jenks plans to demolish town's old train depot
JENKS, Okla. (AP) The Jenks city council has approved spending $6,000 to demolish the old train depot building in the Tulsa suburb.
City Manager Mike Tinker says a viability study on renovating the depot building put the cost at about $120,000, 20 times what the city will pay Art Wrecking Co. to tear down the structure.
Tinker says the building is small and cannot accommodate large groups. He says plans to use the building as a train museum have faded away and that the city has not been able to find a home for the depot's rail cars.
The building once was used as a senior center, but the group that used it then moved to City Hall in the late 1980s and donated the depot to the city.
