Scare at Sapulpa

By KWGS News

Sapulpa, OK – SAPULPA, Okla. (AP) Sapulpa school officials say about 2,000 students from elementary, junior and high schools were evacuated after a potential pipe bomb was found inside a room in the junior high school.

Sapulpa police Maj. Mike Haefner says a Tulsa police bomb technician was brought in to evaluate the device, which was found about 9:05 a.m. Friday.

School Superintendent Mary Webb said officials decided to evacuate the schools as a precaution. The buildings are in proximity to each other.

Haefner says children from Woodlawn Elementary were taken to the middle school, and junior high and high school students were sheltered in another building.

Webb says parents who wished to pick students up early were allowed to do so, and students who remained were to be served lunch.
