Insurance Sales and Burglaries

By Associated Press

Enid, Oklahoma – Oklahoma authorities say a trend has developed of home burglaries following a visit by a door-to-door salesman. Nearly a dozen communities have been hit.

Garfield County sheriff's deputies told Oklahoma City television station KFOR that the salesman uses a high-pressure approach. In the process, the salesman finds out when family members are home.

Enid resident Brandy Bentz says the salesman asks questions such as, "Do you know when your spouse is going to be home?"

In Garfield County, sheriff's Deputy Shawna Cornish says the burglaries started two weeks ago, the same time the salesman started ringing doorbells.

Officials say the salesman has been questioned but has not been arrested.
