Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. GOP picks up seats in state Legislature

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Republicans extended their majority in Oklahoma Legislature as several incumbent Democrats lost their seats in the state House and Senate.

Republicans have a 26-22 majority in the Senate and a 62-39 advantage in the state House, but with Tuesday's election results, unofficial election returns showed GOP gains.

Sen. Jay Paul Gumm of Durant and Rep. Ken Luttrell in the state House were among the Democrats losing in Tuesday's election.

Gumm congratulated his Republican opponent, Josh Brecheen, via his Twitter account, and said he "accepted this promotion to private citizenship."

The seat being vacated by term-limited state Sen. Johnnie Crutchfield also went to the GOP, with Frank Simpson beating Democrat Daryl Roberts.
