Tulsa, OK – Oklahoma drought claims Christmas tree farm
PURCELL, Okla. (AP) The drought in Oklahoma this year has left a Purcell Christmas tree farmer with no choice but to fold up his operation.
Bill Raisey told Tulsa television station KOTV that the drought killed so many of his Christmas trees that he is unable to recover.
The 83-year-old says this year's heat and drought was the worst he seen in 20 years of farming trees. Raisey says he lost more than 1,000 trees this year.
Even though some of his trees are in decent shape, Raisey says customers wouldn't get the selection they want and that he's chosen to retire rather than have disappointed patrons.
