Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. consolidation bills leading to savings
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A state finance official says a bill passed last year to consolidate several state agencies is expected to result in at least $4 million in annual savings for the state.
Office of State Finance Director Preston Doerflinger testified Thursday before a House committee that the savings are from the merger of five state agencies into his office. He says a quarter of that is from the reduction in administrative-level positions and spending.
Doerflinger says an additional $100,000 in annual savings will be gained from consolidating office space.
A separate bill to consolidate the information technology services of various state agencies is projected to save the state $172 million over seven years.
Oklahoma's Chief Information Officer Alex Pettit says 21 percent of the state's IT positions already have been eliminated.
