Tulsa, OK – Probe uncovers staff problems at Oklahoma prisons
TULSA, Okla. (AP) An examination of records from the past two years shows that 40 jailers in the Oklahoma prison system have been fired for rules violations.
The Tulsa World reports that the Department of Correction has disciplined more than 130 employees between 2009 and mid-2011 for a wide range of offenses.
One of the most extreme examples of allowing unauthorized inmate behavior was found at Howard McLeod Correctional Center. Officials learned a prison guard had allowed inmates at the minimum-security prison to hunt wild hogs and butcher them.
The guard was suspended for a day. The hogs were trapped, not shot, and officials say the hunt didn't pose a risk to public safety.
