CATOOSA, Okla. (AP) — The Arkansas River Historical Society is inducting three new members into its hall of fame.
The society says the hall of fame honors people who have contributed to the development of the Arkansas River, its basin and the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System.
The McClellan-Kerr system begins at the Port of Catoosa near Tulsa and stretches across Arkansas to the Mississippi River.
This year's inductees are Jim Cummins, Jay Fredrich and Margaret Petersen. Cummins oversaw the construction of several of the largest bridges spanning the McClellan-Kerr system. Fredrich was part of the engineering team that designed the system's hydroelectric projects.
Petersen is an engineer whose work with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was later applied to the Arkansas River.
A May 9 ceremony is planned in Fort Smith, Ark.
