OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Pharmacists in Oklahoma are about to start sending profiles of people who purchase pseudoephedrine to a multi-state registry.
The new procedure goes into effect on New Year's Day and is the result of a law passed by the Oklahoma Legislature.
The purpose of the registry is to restrict the amount of the popular cold and allergy medicine trafficked across state lines. Pseudoephedrine is an ingredient used in manufacturing methamphetamine.
The Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics says meth cooks have exploited the in-state registry by traveling to multiple states to buy the meth precursor.
