Sunday Crash Kills Vinita Woman

File photo

An overnight traffic accident takes the life of a Vinita woman. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the crash happened early Sunday morning south of Vinita.

The Patrol says the car, driven by 46-year-old Shelly Long, went out of control, hit a guard rail, rolled a couple of times, landing on its top in a creek. Long was trapped in the submerged vehicle.  Long was pulled from the wreckage about 25 minutes later. She was dead in arrival at a nearby hospital.

A passenger in the car was treated and released. Alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
