The program is called MASH. But, don’t expect to Hotlips or Hawkeye. This stands for Math and Science Health. The program started today OU Tulsa’s School of Community Medicine. It gives specially selected High School students insight into health related fields.

24-high school students from around the Tulsa metro take part in an intense two week camp. The sophomores through seniors have hands on experience in DNA extractions, lung volume measurement, trauma care, injection and suturing techniques.

The will learn how to read X-rays and even pharmacy compounding where they will make a Chapstick-like product.

It is collaboration with the Northeast Area Health Education Center, the OU Tulsa School of Community Medicine and Tulsa Community College. It is funded through a Summer Academies Grant from the Oklahoma State Regents for High Education.
