OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Governor Mary Fallin has appointed a former history teacher and the wife of a noted Army general to fill an unexpired term on the Oklahoma State Board of Education.

Fallin announced Friday the appointment of Cathryn Franks to replace Bryan Haden, who resigned. Pending confirmation by the Senate, Franks will serve the remainder of Haden's term that ends in April 2015.

A former history teacher who taught at Killeen High School in Texas as well as American schools in Germany and Korea, Franks is the wife of retired Army General Tommy Franks, who led the 2003 invasion of Iraq. The couple now lives in Roosevelt, Oklahoma.

Cathryn Franks also is the director of international education for Musco Lighting International, a company that provides lighting at sporting events.
