A ‘Cultural Crossroads’ is dedicated at the intersection of 11th and Yale to help draw attention to Route 66. Efforts are underway to make the famous roadway more of a tourist draw for Tulsa. Cyrus Avery is considered the father of Route 66 in Oklahoma. His granddaughter, Joy, was on hand for the dedication ceremony. While the route is famous worldwide, she says Tulsans take it for granted. She’d like to see more done to take advantage of the tourism potential.

And Mayor Bartlett has announced plans are underway for a Route 66 interpretative center at 11th street and Riverside Drive, next to Cyrus Avery Plaza. Proposals are being sought from developers.
