A Copper Theft Causes a Partial Shutdown and Big Headaches for Tulsa County Government

KWGS News

A copper theft shuts down much of Tulsa County government operations over the weekend. Thieves ripped out copper tubing from condensers used to cool computers. It caused temperatures inside to soar and forced a partial shutdown, according to Information Technology Director Tom Trimble. He says had it occurred during the week, it could have been devastating. Trimble says they were able to keep systems to the Sheriff’s Office going for emergencies. County Maintenance Director Dan Belding says this is the second time copper’s been stolen from the condensers, and they’re looking at moving them to a more secure location.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft.
