Tulsa's Clark Theatre camp program for kids adds a fifth session at the Henthorne Performing Arts Center, but that doesn't mean the parks budget has changed.
Parks Director Lucy Dolman said a concerned group is behind the additional session.
"We are very fortunate that the Clark Theatre Council, which is a volunteer organization, has decided to pay for instructors so we can extend the summer camp by one session," Dolman said.
The group — made up mostly of parents — could be the first step toward a partnership that helps keep theatre programs endangered by budget cuts open.
"There is some hope that they can maybe come in and support the city a little bit more with their theatre programming and the revenues that are generated, taking it off the general fund," Dolman said.
The fifth camp will run Aug. 4–15. The classes are for kids from eight to 14. Enrollment is now open. Students learn acting, dancing and other performance skills.
