Remains Found Near Shawnee May be Woman Missing Since 2012

SHAWNEE, Okla. (AP) — The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says remains found in Pottawatomie County may be those of a woman missing for nearly three years.

The OSBI says the remains found in a shallow grave Wednesday in a rural area near Shawnee may be those of Samantha Weaver, who disappeared in June 2012 after going with friends to a casino in Norman.

The OSBI says a tip to the Pottawatomie County district attorney's office led investigators to the area and that ground-penetrating radar was used to find remains.

District Attorney Richard Smothermon said the remains were sent to the state medical examiner's office for identification.
