The beneficiaries for the 38th Tulsa Run have been chosen.
Community Health Connection will get $25,000 as the primary beneficiary. Tulsa Federal Credit Union CEO Greg Gallant said five other groups will get $1,000 each: CAP Tulsa, Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges, Girl Scouts, Meals on Wheels and Up With Trees.
Community Health Connection plans to use the money and a matching grant to purchase seven new pieces of pediatric equipment.
"This is just an amazing thing. To have this additional pediatric testing equipment just makes a world of difference," said Jim McCarthy, the organization's CEO.
The Tulsa Run has selected at least one beneficiary for each race since 2001. McCarthy said he was shocked to hear his organization was chosen.
"Medical attention is one thing. Good nutrition is essential, and exercise is a key component that, unfortunately, is lacking here in Oklahoma," McCarthy said. "The Tulsa Run is a great example of what can be done, what should be done to make us all a lot healthier."
The Tulsa Run is on Halloween this year. There are 15- , 5- and 2-kilometer races. Race officials also announced the course has not changed from last year.
