Cherokees Take The Oath of Office

Cherokee Tribal leaders gather in Tahlequah to take the oath of office. Principal Bill John Baker, the Deputy Chief and Tribal Council members were all sworn in today.

Chief Bill John Baker delivered a lengthy address to those gathered for the ceremony. He pledged to work toward better health care for Cherokee citizens. He also talked about expanding business and housing for tribal members. The Chief talked about the education system in the Cherokee Nation and pledged to make improvements there.

This begins Baker's last term as Chief. He is term limited.
