VIDEO: Senator Releases "Federal Fumbles"

Lankford's office

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — U.S. Sen. James Lankford is highlighting billions of dollars of what he describes as wasteful federal spending in a new report that mirrors a similar project put out each year by his predecessor, former U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn.

Watch the News Conference Here:

Lankford on Monday released the first version of his report dubbed: "Federal Fumbles: 100 Ways the Government Dropped the Ball." The report highlights big-ticket spending like $5 billion on fraudulent income tax returns to small programs like a $48,500 grant to study the history of tobacco use in Russia.

For each of the 100 examples cited in the report, Lankford recommends a way the government can fix the problem.

Lankford says it's important to make the public aware of excessive spending and that he plans to make the report an annual project.
