EUFAULA, Okla. (AP) — The Eufaula school board will appoint a successor for a board member who was killed in a January bank robbery.

The Muskogee Phoenix reports that Randy Peterson, the Bank of Eufaula president who was shot during the Jan. 21 bank robbery, won re-election to another term Tuesday.

McIntosh County Election Board Secretary Carole Hayes says Eufaula's ballots had been printed and some absentee votes had been cast before he was killed.

Eufaula Superintendent Jeanette Smith says the school board won't take action before the election board certifies that he would be the election's winner. It will then declare the seat vacant and have 60 days to appoint someone.

The appointment would last until an election can be called. Smith says she doesn't expect an election before February 2017.
