A state senator from Claremore is the latest to seek the top leadership post in the state Senate.

Republican Sen. Marty Quinn said Monday he intends to run for president pro tempore of the Senate when the 39-member GOP caucus holds its election later this week.

Quinn will face Sens. Mike Schulz of Altus and Ralph Shortey of Oklahoma City in the closed-door, secret-ballot election on Wednesday.

All three men are vying to replace outgoing Senate President Pro Tempore Brian Bingman, who has served six years as Senate leader but is being forced out of office because of term limits.

Quinn owns an insurance agency in Claremore.
