Governor Seeks Storm Aid

NWS -Norman Facebook

Gov. Mary Fallin is seeking disaster assistance for two Oklahoma counties that were hit hard by tornadoes, severe storms and flooding earlier this month.

Fallin sought assistance from the U.S. Small Business Administration on Monday for Murray and Garvin counties.

Damage assessments indicate that 79 homes and businesses were affected by severe weather May 9-13 in Murray County. Of those, 32 were destroyed or sustained major damage.

Another 14 homes were affected in neighboring Garvin County. Two were destroyed or suffered major damage.

If approved, SBA low-interest disaster loans would be available for eligible homeowners and business owners to replace any storm-damaged property that is not covered by insurance or other assistance programs. The loan program is also available to help businesses that sustained economic injury due to the storm.
