Great Weekend for Swimming

File photo

Dangerous heat is expected over much of eastern Oklahoma this
afternoon. Heat indices are expected to top out in the 105 to 110
degree range.

There is a limited risk of severe storms mainly late this
afternoon and into the evening across northeast Oklahoma. Damaging
winds and large hail are the main threats. Storms are expected to
form along a lee trough over western Oklahoma and move east.
Storms should begin to dissipate by midnight tonight.

Dangerous heat is expected to persist into early next week as a
ridge of high pressure aloft builds over the region. Afternoon
heat indices between 105 and 110 degrees will be common over much
of the region thru Tuesday.

A complex of storms, and/or new storm development on its outflow,
is expected to back door its way into northwest Arkansas and
northeast Oklahoma from Missouri and Kansas on Sunday. There is a
limited risk of damaging winds and possibly some marginally severe
hail.

A cold front will bring relief from the heat and a chance for
thunderstorms for the middle to latter part of next week.
