As the use of unmanned aerial vehicles continues to grow, a state legislator says it is imperative that laws are put in place to protect the privacy rights of citizens from unwarranted surveillance by the government.
Moore Republican Rep. PaulWesselhoftheld a study on the use of drones Thursday before the House Energy and Aerospace Committee.Wesselhoft wrote a bill last year that would restrict the use of drones by law enforcement for surveillance on citizens without a warrant, but stalled the bill at the request of Gov. Mary Fallin, who was concerned it could affect the state's burgeoning aerospace industry.
Wesselhoft says he hopes to revive the measure next session after the Federal Aviation Administration selects six test sites for unmanned aircraft systems.
