Tulsa, Oklahoma – On this edition of StudioTulsa, we speak with Adam Garfinkle, a noted expert on U.S. foreign relations, a former speechwriter for both Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice (when each was serving as Secretary of State), and the current editor of "The American Interest." Garfinkle was recently in town to give an address to the Tulsa Committee on Foreign Relations entitled, "How to Stop Worrying about Terrorism." Has the threat of terrorism --- and the competing notions on how best to address that threat --- overwhelmed or otherwise problematically distorted American political discourse since September 11th, 2001? Our guest on today's show certainly thinks so . . . and he makes a compelling case in this regard. He also has some interesting stories to share about what various players in the Bush White House were thinking and/or doing in reference to terrorism in the months and years that followed 9/11.
